It is not often that a good book comes along that is about your favorite artists/ musicians or for that matter, one that will make you think back to the last time you read a decent story that held your attention, or captivated you. A story that will make you feel like a fly on the wall are few and far between friends. Many months ago, a new book was mentioned as being in the works that would feature stories from our favorite minstrels. And as fans of the band Blackmore’s Night, we finally have the book that we have longed for “The Next Stage”. Every fan of the band, or music is sure to enjoy this tour de force. Finally we have insightful, official stories, told through the eyes of those who lived through some very incredible experiences that most would find almost impossible, or ludicrous, to fathom. And while most of these stories will come off as over the top, laugh out loud situations, they are all very true.

The book is broken up into four sections, (stages). And without giving too much away, I will say that each story will set you center stage for the ride of your life. Every story goes behind the scenes of the day- to- day life, hardships, and humor that come along with touring musicians. You will read about what it is like to check into a hotel at 3:30 am, (with a burning desire to just get some rest) and have to deal with more things that one can possibly imagine. There is a story from the past, that has a great cast of character’s, with a practical joke gone wrong. Another that deals with air travel/ fans, and a castles and might I add, a story that has to do with a split personality, a video camera, and the contents of its “Master” tape. Surely by now you are begging for the answers?

Lets make this simple shall we? Anyone who has ever had the slightest interest in music (or for that matter, the music business), needs to get a copy of “The Next Stage” pronto. This book is an easy, and fun read, that will keep any true fan on their toes. This is the book that you will have a rough time putting down once you start reading.

We had the opportunity to ask the hard working, and always ”humorous” Doc Calvinson, (the guy you don’t see) about the story that he penned down. We asked Doc his thoughts about the book and here is what he had to say.
 Greetings Friends,
Right now it's some crazy-ass hour of the morning and here I sit in the quiet of the lobby of a crappy little hotel in some city I don't even know how to pronounce. No one speaks English here and everyone smells. I asked for toast for a snack and I think I got rabbit meat. You know how it goes...
Well first of all I have to say I have been privledged to work with the incredibly talented artists that live behind the stories. And with their great genius comes their great trials and tribulations that have made the stories come to life with such color. Of course, all those stories are funny....in retrospect. When you live them you normally can't wait until they end. When you read about them later...much later...they make you cherish the memory, with an unconscious grin widening on your face. You think of the fans you do it all for, the exhileration of being on that stage, and then, before you know it, you long for the road again. It is a vicious cycle of self-inflected wounds, but it hurts so good. The stories speak for themselves. They cover a few periods in the history of a few different bands, but we wanted to respect the privacy of groups and individuals so we changed names.
