| BLACKMORE'S NIGHT - THE SECRET VOYAGE Fairytales, castles, legends and stories coming from afar.. Haunting,enchanting melodies compose the new studio album from Blackmore's Night called the 'Secret Voyage'. And it is indeed a journey trough time since every melody takes you far away, in a secret place where dreams and reality meet.. After the beautiful intro of 'God Save the Keg', the atmosphere gets darker for ' Locked within the crystal ball ' where we meet the admirable genius of Ritchie Blackmore and the enchantment of the exquisite Candice Night, who sings of crystal balls, ships and tempest..Then the atmosphere gets serene with the peaceful 'Gilded Cage' , a truly beautiful ballad, surrounded by remarkable acoustic patterns, followed by 'Toast of Tomorrow' which reminds us of joyful feasts with friends, and the wonderful 'Prince Waldeck's Galliard', a medieval, captivating, instrumental piece. As the journey continues, the well-known Rainbow song 'Rainbow Eyes' proves that Ritchie Blackmore can transform his songs in any way, and still keep the flame and the magic alive.The Circle, Sister Gypsy and the Peasant's Promise are stirring pieces, where beautiful traditional instruments create a nostalgic feeling. Splendid electric guitars and excellent vocals on Elvis Presley's ' Can't help falling in love', the fairytale feeling of Far Far Away, and the epilogue of Empty Words bring the journey to the end, but the melodies still stay with you, and make you want to come back to this music again and again.. Best regards, Natasha Hasapi BN Greek Fan Club hello... this is my review and photos from Blackmore's Night Concert in Zagreb 27Jan View my pics In rainy Zagreb on the 27th of January 2009 Blackmore’s Night started their European Tour for 2009 and we did all we could do to be a part of another concert-delight as we covered more than 2000km to meet them. Zagreb is a very beautiful town of traditional architecture which reminds medieval times (Renaissance). Rain was a small drawback as we could not enjoy the town as much as we would like to. Lisinski Concert Hall is a big modern building where all kinds of concerts take place and it was appropriate for Blackmore’s concert as well. In the venue we got to know the driver of the band and we had the chance to talk about our favourite topic, Blackmore’s Night…. The stage effects took a long to be set up because Croatian people for some unknown reason did not allow the staff to do their job properly… Fortunately, it all went fine and the concert was held without any unexpected incidents. Doors opened at 20:00 and till 18:30 there was no one around. Around 19:00 the first medieval figures dressed in nice costumes began to show up and so the feeling was reminding a lot of Blackmore’s Night.. Queens, Kings, Witches, Elves, Knights were all there. When I put on my medieval costume, I feel something special. It is like going back in time and living some moments of that era…. We saw the concert sitting on the second row together with the other medieval-dressed people as we were in the Guest List made by Carole Stevens (manager BN). We thank her so much for her amazing help. The set of the concert was just amazing and fabulous with the Secret Voyage as background, the nets, Blackmore’s guitars and the very beautifully decorated piano of Bard David. The concert started ideally with Locked within the Crystal Ball and they followed the rest of the magical songs as you can see on the play list. In most concerts people usually sit and they stand up at the end of the show. On the contrary, we rushed ahead while they were playing Home Again and we stayed there until the end. People from Zagreb seemed to know well the band and there were a lot who were dressed in medieval costumes and not in irrelevant T-shirts or even Deep Purple T-shirts. I hope we will make a good impression here in Greece if they ever come. For those who have never been to a Blackmore’s Night concert, I would recommend it without a second thought. It is a great pleasure-concert, something different which is worth seeing and listening to. I have never seen Ritchie so in the mood. He changes songs in his own way and his makes them sound magical and so were the solos he was playing. Candice, very beautiful as usual, was singing great and she was joking with the audience. It was a magical night, very typical of Blackmore’s Night. The band was refreshed and it had two new members: Gypsy Rose - Violin and Earl Grey Of Chamay - Bass who both gave their best.. This was the first concert after their wedding as Candice told us showing her wedding ring. After the end of the concert with the help of my friend Richard Michels (Personal Security BN) and Carole Stevens, we managed to meet Candice Night and Ritchie Blackmore, and so one of my dreams come true. They were sitting on the couch and they welcomed us in a good mood. I have heard a lot about Ritchie, that he is a bit strange etc. I haven’t noticed anything like that; on the contrary, he was very friendly and simple. Candice Night was so cute, beautiful and pleasant that it is impossible for anyone not to like her. They were very surprised when my uncle (Boris) told them that he had met Ritchie outside his house in the USA in 1999. They promised to come to Greece. Simon Concert Review 46 years old I have been following Blackmore´s career since I was a kid and I trawled from Sweden to Milano to see the concert. It was one of the finest concerts I have seen. Sometimes I was laughing of joyfulness and also my eyes filled with tears because I was really touch by the beauty. I can also tell you that I went to la Scala to see Tristan und Isolde and I enjoyed Blackmore´s Night more and I would never change that experience. If I was to choose I would never hesitate to go for Blackmore´s Night instead of la Scala. It was a rainy day in Zagreb and despite poor advertising activities concert attended about 1300 souls or better to say a big one since all hearts have been beating as one on that magical voyage which lasted for almost 3 hours (!) and ended just around midnight although it seemed it would last till dawn since song after song went better and better... Rain stopped and Moon over Zagreb went Violet. Zagreb got something rare, unforgettable and now lives and hopes for new coming of Blackmore's (K)Night(s) & Queen(s). Tomislav Blackmore's Night Concert Hello there! My name is Igor and I liv e in Zagreb, Zeleni trg 3, Croatia. Yes, that was my first BN concert on 27th of January and in my hometown!!! It was wonderful! Me and my two friends dressed in medieval clothes and had a wonderful and magical time. So did everyone around us and I dare to say the whole concert hall. The length of the concert tells me that Ritchie and Candice and the band prettty much enjoyed themselves as well. Thank you very, very much for the music and the magic! A few days ago I contacted Dario Rakovac to join the first Croatian Official Blackmore's Night Fan Club and we exchanged thoughts and opinions, him being far more experienced in that matter than me. I hope it develops further. I've been listening to BN music for 8 years now and have all their CDs and DVDs. Although I'm 50 and not easily overwhelmed their (your!) music is so fresh (although rennaisance style), romantic and magical that it always takes me somewhere and someplace else and makes me feel…well, let's not describe it with words! I've been introducing BN music to all my relatives and friends ever since and am still enjoying to do so. It was not my intention to get to fan comments or concert comments pages, but if you feel like doing so I have no objections. Finally, I sincerely hope that we shall see and hear Blackmore's Night in Croatia again and my wish (and hopefully the goal of Fan Club) would be that it takes place in spring or summer on one of our medieval locations (we have some beautiful castles and several festivals)! Anyway yesterday evening, Friday 06th of February 2009, I was in the Palabrescia living one of the most sensational, incredible, fabulous and exciting concert of all my life! You made me go crazy! The title tracks was so balanced between the medieval folk style, proper of Blackmore's Night, and the rock spirit of the sensational Ritchie Blackmore. I enjoyed every single note, chord and improvvisation of the concert. You made me laugh till the death whith the telephone joke and those simple words:"My Mama..." I really appreciated the drums and keyboard solos of the concert, I couldn't hold myself from dancing and moving hands trying to follow the rythm. But I remain a simple guitar player who has grown dreaming to be able, in a even far future, to be like you Sir Ritchie Blackmore. I've started playing this wonderfull musical instrument after I heard your riffs in Deep Purple in Rock and Made in Japan. From those old vynils, bought by my father, I started to reach as much info I could on you till a day I found in a CDshop a Blackmore's Night CD and I bought it without thinking a second time. Yesterday I was under the stage, in front of the really cool and nice bass player, and when I saw you so near to me I could not believe to my eyes, especially when you came back from the backstage with your Fender Stratocaster Ritchie Blackmore's Signature, that was the top. On that scalloped fretboard you made one of the most incredible solo I've ever heard, in that was concentrated all your immagination, creativity and emotions. I don't know what I would give to meet you all out of a theater, I can't hide I'm a fanatic of Ricthie Blackmore and the band (I've not counted how many times I watched the Paris Moon DVD). A special thanks to Candice Night and the pretty violinist, who were able to surround all the fans with the melody of their voice and improvvisations on the instrument. I think that, even if you haven't done songs like Black Night and Smoke on the Water (like you did the 27th of April 2008 in Mantova), the concert was really complete of all the most emotional tracks you could offer to us. Songs like O Fortuna, from the Carmina Burana, and the 9th Symphony of Beethoven will remain forever in my heart! BLACKMORES NIGHT Review: Charlotte NC, 25th October Charlotte exploded with a very enthusiastic crowd from the Charlotte area as well a many guests from all over the US. StreetTeam was out in force -- but the crowd was ready anyway. Setlist is similar to the others, just got a surprise of Loreley - which I do not believe has been played in the states before. I've always been a fan of the actual group Renaissance with Annie Haslam and when I heard that Ritchie was putting together a group of Renaissance music I must admit I was a bit skeptical. Upon hearing the first album I was instantly intrigued and convinced. Candice Night's voice is incredible and soothing. Her place in the music of Blackmore's night is surely affirmed with every melodic twist and turn. Her personality and stage presence are perfect for her role as a maiden of the renaissance period, not to mention her goddess-like appearance. The mixture of renaissance and rock guitar playing of Ritchie Blackmore is what makes this group what it is. It has been argued at some renaissance faire's that the entertainment value should not be stressed to the point of overshadowing the importance of the authenticity of the time and it's traditions. In this musical setting, entertainment is exactly what is expected, and it's value and importance in bringing a Sixteenth century musical culture to the attention of a rock music crowd (who would otherwise have never bothered with the actual music of the time) cannot be overlooked. With traditional songs as the background for the music, Ritchie's playing is surprisingly fresh and unique from his previous work with Deep Purple and Rainbow. The choice of songs and arrangements are always enjoyable and have the ability to bring you back to a time when perhaps Robin Hood himself may have longed for some company by the fire on those moonlit nights away from his castle. The choice of album covers are indeed an important element essential to the idea and internal images of the music. How many images on album covers are often ambiguous or open to more then one interpretation by the listener? How often are album covers some sort of inside joke known only to the band? With Blackmore's night, the covers speak directly to the time on which they are based. I will continue to listen and buy their albums as long as they put them out. So now.. if you will please excuse me while I mount my trusty steed and roam the country side in search of a maiden with long hair and a big chest, who just happens to live in a castle and walks by the window with a torch and takes off her... Your sincerely Marco THE NEXT STAGE BY: Doc Calvinson I read this wonderful book a couple of weeks ago and the stories from this book still pop into my mind. It is a must read, not only for Blackmore’s Night fans and not only for anyone who has ever been on the road or in a band but for anyone who deals with people on a daily basis (this would be most of us, wouldn’t it). First of all, it is such a well-written book. The reader is able to follow the character’s thought process even while the character is saying something else. You know “you think one thing – say another”. It is very easy to follow the story line. It is an easy read. Second, I promise you will laugh out-loud. Heed the warning, you may want to read in private or else people may start giving you strange looks as they notice you laughing at the book. The book has no boring sections. You won’t want to put it down until you are finished. This is a book that will have you wishing the 2nd edition was already in print. The stories and characters come to life and you find yourself rooting for them, laughing with them (O.K., sometimes at them) and applauding the outcomes. You have a sense that you know these people. Although all have been given fictitious names, the stories are stated to be true and after your introduction to each of these characters, you can believe that the stories are true! This makes a great gift for the Holidays, Birthdays, or just to cheer someone up. Buy your copy today and I promise you will enjoy! I can so see the scene where they're sitting there watching fireflies as they hold each others hand. I'm going to draw you a picture of that scene one day. and when I do, I'll send it to you.
